A Trip to Rome | Emily K

Hi lovelies! The past couple of weeks have been maaddd! I went to a festival called Soul Survivor with my church youth group which was insane. Then GCSE results, which went so well! And the past week has just been me recovering from such a hectic few weeks of Summer! From now I’m hoping to stick to a regular schedule, but we will see how that goes with sixth form starting! How have you all been and what have you been up to?

About a month ago, my Mum and I were blessed to be able to go to Rome for the weekend. It was a treat from my Dad for working so hard in my exams, and it was amazing to be lucky enough to visit such a beautiful city, and spend some quality time with my Mum! I really wanted to do a post on it, so I hope you enjoy!

We stayed in Hotel Traiano, in Rome’s city centre, within walking distance of everywhere! It was a lovely, safe neighbourhood, which I would definitely recommend, and the hotel was a 10/10! The staff were wonderful – some hilarious, and we came home filled with information all about the deskman’s love affair with an English lady, whom he was still in love with, but had broken his heart by getting married (honestly, we were crying with laughter at his tales!).

In terms of the sites…they were fascinating. Beautiful. The history was incredible. And it just felt so magical. The first evening we did a tour in the heart of Rome, with a company called Angel Tours (100 percent recommend – we did 2 tours with them!) and it turned out Mum and I were the only ones on the tour, so we basically had a private tour guide! Our guide, Ruffo, was amazing, and he took us from the Spanish Steps, to the Trevi Fountain, to the Piazza’s, to the Pantheon.

The Spanish Steps
The Pantheon
The best view to have a drink with!
The Trevi Fountain. We were very lucky to see this a lot, because it was so near our hotel so we often passed it on the walk home!

We then had dinner in a pizzeria in the Trastevere area of Rome, where most of the restaurants are located. We went back here every night, because there was such a vast number to pick from, and were reasonably cheap compared to restaurants further into town! A pizza here was six euros, compared to eighteen in the centre!

The following day we visited the Vatican, which was VERY impressive, and my Mum was awestruck by the fact we were in the same place as the Pope! I wasn’t quite as fascinated, and I found the three hour tour guide (we did the art & religion tour) in the museum to drone on somewhat, but I did enjoy the beauty of the architecture, and the religious history really interested me! St Peter’s Basilica was phenomenal. The Vatican is a definite visit – you can’t go to Rome and miss this out!

Inside the Vatican!

On the final day we went to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palentine Hill, and oh my, what a treat that was! Again, I can’t put into words, or even begin to explain, just how incredible it all was. Did you know the Colosseum was built in 6-8 years. SIX TO EIGHT. Have you seen how incredible it is? (I’m running out of synonyms for amazing/incredible/fascinating…let’s pull out the thesaurus!).

The Colosseum
Just how incredible is it!?
Palentine Hill. This view over the Roman Forum was stunning.

So yes. Overall it was a wonderful, wonderful trip, and I’m so thankful to have been lucky enough to get to go. My Mum and I had such a great time, and although our feet ached for days because of SO much walking in such hot weather (I’ve never done so much walking in a day in my life), it was fantastic.

I hope you enjoyed reading about Rome! Have you been anywhere this summer? If not, what have you been up to?

Love, Em x

P.S: Today is my two year WordPress anniversary!! I made my original blog, LyfWithEm, two years ago today – how crazy is that!? Thank you to those of you who have supported me since the beginning, and to those who have just joined the journey. I love and appreciate all of you!
